Rahul Sharma is a passionate technologist and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) leader, driving the evolution of dependable quantum computing systems at IBM Research. As the Global Lead of the SRE team for the IBM Quantum platform, Rahul spearheads initiatives that ensure reliability, scalability, and resilience across a worldwide infrastructure supporting cutting-edge quantum workloads.
With a proven track record across industries—including a pivotal tenure at VMware—Rahul specializes in architecting highly available and fault-tolerant distributed systems that power tomorrow’s innovations. At the intersection of reliability and advanced research, he leads efforts to build robust SLO/SLI frameworks, automate incident response, and embed reliability into every layer of the quantum software stack. His leadership ensures that groundbreaking research translates into production-ready systems trusted by enterprises and scientists globally.
A believer in high-impact engineering culture, Rahul has mentored top-performing SRE teams and guided critical reliability transformations aligned with business and mission goals. He is especially passionate about applying classical reliability principles to emerging quantum workloads—enabling Quantum-as-a-Service platforms that scale securely and sustainably.
Rahul holds a B.Tech in ECE from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar. Outside of work, he engages with open-source communities, contributes to thought leadership on observability and chaos engineering, and actively collaborates on building the future of quantum infrastructure.
