Various aspects of quantum computing are discussed. The initial discovery of quantum algorithms promising giants leaps forward in the attempts to tackle important computing applications gave an impetus to the interest in quantum computing. The largest computations to date used the precision methods of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), with spin 1/2 atomic nuclei as qubits and a magnetic field establishing two distinct nuclear states. The potential that quantum computing offers is connected to the ability to form superpositions of quantum states that are defined by coefficients that can have a continuum of possible values.
