The anisotropic microwave refractive index and loss of lithium niobate, in the 15-140 GHz range, are measured using the coherent microwave transient spectroscopy technique. The frequency-dependent complex transmission function of a 5-98 mm thick crystal is studied as a function of the angle between the electric Field and the optic axis. © 1991, The Institution of Electrical Engineers.
