With Feed Forward Equalization (FFE), VCSEL-based links using NRZ modulation have been demonstrated error-free to 71 Gb/s at 850nm, 56 Gb/s at 1530nm, and 50 Gb/s to 90 oC. This paper will review this progress and speculate on the realization of 100 Gb/s serial links.
