With electrical pulse stimuli, the distance function of the inhibitory interaction effect on the threshold of the fingers was determined. A general decline in the effect as a function of distance was observed with the exception that the effect on the little finger was unusually strong. There was also shown to be a decrease in the masking effect as indicated by a lower current for threshold as the level of the masking stimulus was reduced. An attempt was made to synthesize these data into the framework of experimental neurophysiology and to point out relations between the physiological and psychophysical data.
