Leveraging optical interconnects in future supercomputers and servers

Optical interconnects offer significant advantages for future high performance computers. Progress towards new technologies for optical interconnects are reviewed, focusing on potential improvements in waveguide-based interconnects between chips and the prospects for on-chip optics using silicon photonics. © 2008 IEEE.
