Andreea Anghel           

I am a research scientist at IBM Research – Zurich in the Cloud Storage and Analytics group, where I am actively involved in the research and development of machine learning algorithms for AI products. I first joined IBM in 2011 and since then I have had the opportunity of working on various cutting-edge projects and technologies. A few such examples are: machine learning libraries for fast and large-scale analytics, accelerated machine-learning-assisted tumor detection in medical images, anomaly detection for data center networks, large-scale system modeling methodologies (in support of the Square Kilometre Array (SKA), the largest radio telecope in the world). 

I hold a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Information Technology from ETH Zurich and a M.Sc. degree in Communication Systems from EPF Lausanne. My current main research interests include machine learning algorithms and high-performance analytics systems. Other research interests are machine learning systems and algorithms for computational biology.

I have received three plateau invention awards and a research division award from IBM and I was nominated for outstanding doctoral theses at ETH Zurich. I have co-authored more than 30 publications and 12 IBM patents.
