Operations Research - overview
Operations Research is a discipline that encompasses a wide range of problem-solving techniques and methods applied in the pursuit of improved decision-making and efficiency. The Operations Research Professional Interest Community (OR PIC) is a volunteer organization of our world-wide team of OR researchers. The objective of the OR PIC is to facilitate basic research and apply our expertise to solving problems for IBM and its clients. The OR PIC contributes to a vibrant scientific environment at IBM Research by sponsoring academic conferences, organizing local workshops and seminars, and hosting external visitors.
The Research PICs were created by Patricia Goldberg and Steve Lavenberg more than 20 years ago to make sure that we would always have a focus of being famous for our science and technology while we are being vital to the future of IBM.
