Christopher Gibson

Bio

Christopher is an experienced engineer, researcher and manager. His background is in the field of software engineering—twenty years of which has been in research software engineering—holding leadership positions in applied research, research adoption in new products and solutions for industry and the public sector (including IBM product development) and open source contributions.

Christopher's expertise encompasses an eclectic mix of technologies including distributed systems, edge computing, model- and policy-driven service-oriented architectures, declarative systems, real-time computing and simulation, operating systems, reputation systems, software tools, human-computer interaction (including real-time command and control interfaces) and information visualisation. His other interests include product design (Christopher is an experienced Design Thinking practitioner) and promoting excellence in the software engineering profession.

Christopher manages a team of researchers and research software engineers. He is also the IBM lead for the research exploitation work stream of the IBM UK Discovery Accelerator, working in close collaboration with UK Research and Innovation's (UKRI) Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC). In this role, Christopher is responsible for working with external organisations to deliver new industry solutions from fundamental and applied research.
