Bio

Dr. Fumiko Satoh is a Senior Technical Staff Member and Senior Manager at IBM Research in Tokyo, leading global teams to drive innovation and deliver cutting-edge solutions in AI for Code, Quantum Safe Security (Post-Quantum Cryptography), and Mainframe Modernization. With a strong background in security, AI, and enterprise transformation, she has played a pivotal role in developing advanced technologies that shape the future of IT.

She leads the technology development for IBM watsonx Code Assistant for Z, a mainframe modernization solution that leverages AI-driven code generation, translation, and explanation to accelerate the transformation of PL/I applications. Her expertise extends to security technologies, including Web Service Security, Cloud Security, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), and Threat Intelligence.

She is actively involved in Quantum Safe Security initiatives, focusing on the research, development, and implementation of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) solutions to protect critical systems against quantum computing threats. She collaborates with industry leaders to drive the adoption of PQC, ensuring future-proof security for enterprise and cloud environments.

Beyond her work at IBM, she is also deeply committed to education and research. She serves as a Partner Professor at the Institute of Information Security and delivers lectures on advanced information security at the Institute of Science Tokyo (formerly Tokyo Institute of Technology), helping to shape the next generation of cybersecurity professionals.

Passionate about innovation, she fosters a collaborative and high-performing environment, empowering teams to push technological boundaries and create real-world impact. She strongly believes that advanced technology can solve complex global challenges and bring tangible value to industries and communities.

She received her Master’s degree in Physics and Doctoral degree in Computer Science from Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2001 and 2010, respectively.
