Dr. Kushal Mukherjee is a Senior Research Scientist at IBM Research, India, where he has been contributing since 2017. His current work focuses on advancing research in large language model-driven agentic systems, with a particular emphasis on tool integration and applications. He aims to drive innovation in enterprise process optimization through the deployment of intelligent systems.
Dr. Mukherjee earned his PhD from Pennsylvania State University, USA, in 2011, along with MS degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from the same institution in 2009. He holds a bachelor’s degree from IIT Roorkee, India (2006).
His research interests span agentic systems, enterprise process optimization, conversational AI, reinforcement learning, multi-agent systems, and knowledge representation. Before joining IBM, he served as a Senior Research Scientist specializing in machine learning at United Technologies Research Center, Ireland.
With over 14 years of experience in applied machine learning, Dr. Mukherjee has contributed to diverse domains, including smart buildings, aerospace fault diagnostics, aerospace fleet data analytics, talent management, and business process transformation. He has published more than 50 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and filed over 20 patents, demonstrating a strong commitment to innovation and excellence in his field.
