Priscilla Barreira Avegliano

Priscilla Avegliano is a research scientist at IBM Research who explores the intersection between Machine Learning, Statistics of extreme events, and Chaos Theory. She currently leads efforts in generating hypothetical extreme scenarios and improving the performance of Machine Learning models for events that deviate significantly from the mean. Her work has been applied in the real world by clients such as reinsurance companies and internally for the development of techniques to search for molecules with extraordinarily desirable properties. Priscilla is a Computer Engineer by formation, and holds a Master's and PhD in Artificial Intelligence (more specifically, Multi-agent systems). Over her career, she has won academic awards (honour mention for her Master's from the Brazilian Society of Computing and Best paper in W4A). Additionally, she has extensive experience in academic writing and intellectual property creation, with more than 20 patents at the USPTO.
